01

Individual Attention

Every student is treated as an individual and accorded with respect. Axon Academy will remain at a size that allows the owner, Yat-Yee Chong, to know and teach every student.

02

Person First

The student is always more important than skills or curriculum. Students should expect to be challenged but never at the expense of their personal development and well-being.

03

Emphasis on Teaching

Being proficient in marital arts skills is necessary but not enough for someone to be a martial arts instructor. Ms. Chong brings with her 30 years of teaching experience and a Master's degree in pedagogy to teaching Tae Kwon Do.

04

Always Learning

The Founder of ATA, Eternal Grandmaster H. U. Lee has this simple motto: "There is always more to learn." This characterizes the attitude of the academy for students and instructors.

05

Inclusive and Positive

The only people excluded at Axon Martial Arts Academy are those who seek to exclude others. This is a community that accepts, supports, and encourages.

Meet Owner and Head Instructor, Yat-Yee Chong

When my children’s martial arts instructor first invited me to take a class, I laughed.

You see, my identity was that of a bookworm, a music nerd. I grew up a fan of martial arts films, but I thought martial arts was only for the gifted.

My instructor persisted, and I eventually took the leap.

It was one of my best decisions.

  • It awakened my inner athlete.
  • It proved that I could develop physical skills even in my 40s.
  • It led me to shed the self-image of a clumsy and sedentary person.
  • It provided a structure for me to achieve goals I'd never dreamed of: earning a Black Belt and even a World Champion title.
